Does having fresh fruit and vegetables available from the garden sound great? Is having to replant year after year off-putting? Here at Crocodile Trading, we have the solution… Certain plants don’t need replanting and will grow year after year, season after season. We have made a list of 5 different fruits and vegetables for people who only want to plant once.
• Raspberries
Raspberry bushes come in a large variety of colour: red, black, purple and even gold. Raspberries are low maintenance which means they don’t require much of your time which makes them perfect for a lazy gardener. Raspberries usually produce high yields and will make the garden bright and colourful.
• Asparagus
Asparagus is great for your heart and is a great tasty treat to accompany many dishes. Asparagus will grow yearly however it can take up to 3 years for the harvest to reach its full potential… stick it out for a few years and big plentiful harvests will grow yearly, I guarantee it won’t be a regret.
• Tomatoes
Tomatoes are probably the most popular home-grown food… this may be because there are no limits to what can be done with them, sauces, salads, bruschetta, soups, and the list goes on. Tomatoes are great, the harvest size is enormous, plus home-grown taste far better than shop bought. Why not try growing some heirloom varieties.
• Kale
Kale is a great leafy green to grow… it grows quickly and in large quantities. Individual leaves can be removed, or the stalks can be chopped… make sure to leave about 2 inches of stork sticking out of the soil. New leaves will grow within a couple of weeks.
• Strawberries
Strawberries may not provide a big harvest in their first year of growth, once the year is up huge juicy red harvests can be enjoyed. Not only do strawberries produce large amounts… they taste fantastic, on their own, with cream or in a cheesecake. Don’t worry about having too many either, uneaten strawberries can be made into delicious jam.
